At FITT 1ST we are passionate about the sport of cycling and believe that in order to enjoy this wonderful sport to its fullest, you need to be comfortable above all else. Whether you are a weekly commuter, a dedicated charity rider, serious recreational club rider, elite or professional athlete, road or mountain, it all starts with finding the best position possible for you. Once you are comfortable, then and only then can performance be optimized. We believe that a person’s bicycle when fitted correctly should feel like an extension of their own body, the perfect union between Rider and Machine. You should feel comfortable, safe, balanced, strong and always in control.

WHAT MAKES A " FITT 1ST " BIKE FIT DIFFERENT
"Tell me and I’ll forget. Show me and I’ll remember. Involve me and I’ll understand”
Confucius
We at FITT 1ST want you to understand your bike fit, that's why we take the extra time to actively involve you in all aspects of the procedure. This way we establish quality communication and feedback.
Our fitting process was developed by the leaders and pioneers in this industry, taught at the SICI Institute to the TOP FITTERS IN THE WORLD. Although our system uses well established scientific criteria as its base we add a very “Rider Centric “ component to our fit procedure by establishing a thorough personalized profile of the rider themselves.
There are no “quick fixes” if a bike fit is done correctly, and that is why our fits are very comprehensive.
Whether you are a pro athlete or a daily commuter, the process remains the same and is equally important for all.
By the time your fit is complete you should not only feel totally satisfied with your new position, you will also have a much greater knowledge and better understanding of how your body and your bicycle work together. You and the bicycle become one. This is how the cycling experience is maximized.
Full FITT Procedure
Step 1: Interview
The fit begins with an extensive interview to establish a personal blueprint of the uniqueness you bring to the bike.
We will gather information about your life off the bike that relates directly to your comfort, efficiency and power on the bike. Lifestyle, fitness level, riding experience, prior injuries, surgeries and current physical concerns all play an important role in determining your ideal position.
Step 2: Foot Assessment
This is a very important aspect of the bike fit and absolutely essential for any rider who uses a clipped in pedal system. The interface between the foot, shoe, cleat and pedal is where it all begins. This is where all your power and efficiency originates.
This is also the source for the majority of foot, knee, hip and sometimes lower back issues that we encounter. Foot size and shape, degree of pronation, arch type, length and height, forefoot and posterior foot varus and valgas and metatarsal support are all evaluated here.
Step 3: Flexibility and Postural Assessment
Everyone has a unique body structure, determined by genetics, how we live our lives, and even what we do for a living. A person who sits in front of a computer all day will have a much different range of motion and flexibility than the fitness trainer, even if they were born identical twins. Chances are they would not be comfortable in the same position on the bike as well. Postural alignment, leg length differences, pelvic asymmetries, spinal flexibility, hamstring flexibility, and hip flexion range of motion, IT bands and internal hip flexors will all be assessed.
Step 4: On Bike Assessment
Everything we do on the bike is to ensure that the bike fits you. It makes more sense to change a stem, saddle position or handle bar position than to force one's body into a position that is unnatural. This process will result in a position that accommodates all of your natural bio-mechanics, removing excess pressure on all your joints.
Foot stability, cleat alignment, ankling pattern, knee tracking, pelvic angle, upper body alignment, arm and hand positions will all be optimized to ensure that you will be riding safely and comfortably for your current skill and fitness level. We will be asking for your feedback continually through this phase.
Step 5: Evaluation and Recommendations
We will do our best to adapt your existing equipment to you. However there may be changes that we will recommend to you. A new handlebar with shallower reach and drop to accommodate your arm and hand position, a different saddle that fits your body and riding style better or something as small as adding a wedge to one of your cleats. Any one of these small changes can make a world of difference in your ability to enjoy, perform well and ride safely on the bike.
If your bike is just the wrong size and or geometry for you, we will tell you so, and give you advice on what manufacturers makes, models and size would be a much better fit for you and your style of riding.
All of your data will be recorded, so that you will have a permanent record of all the key bike measurements.

Here is what Adam Johnston and Peter Oyler had to say about why WattsUp Cycling decided to Partner with FITT 1ST
Anyone who takes their cycling as seriously as the typical WattsUp Cycling athlete does needs to be comfortable, powerful, and aerodynamic on their bike.
Realizing that there is a considerable process to being properly fit on one's bike, we decided to out-source our bike fits to a professional.
It was imperative that this fit professional display the following:
INDEPENDENT:
We believe a true bike fit professional ought to be independent of any particular bike shop, bike brand, bike fitting system, training club, etc. At present, the vast majority of Toronto's bike fitters do not have independent status.
Scott at FITT 1ST does.
CERTIFICATION / PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION:
There are a number of bike-fitting certifications available. And each system has their merits. We feel it's important that a bike fitter be trained in at least one system, and willing to flex their fit philosophy to consider the ideas/philosophies of other systems. Scott displays this, being a SICI certified PROFESSIONAL fitter, and intending to examine other bike fit systems.
TECHNOLOGY:
We believe technology plays an important role in bike fitting. But at the same time, we feel that some bike fitters hide behind the technology rather than standing up and taking ownership of the fitting process. Scott implements a judicious use of technology and human science in his bike fits.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
Scott is an avid, long time, serious cyclist. He knows the nuances of cycling. and understands athletes' passion for their bikes and the importance of how good they feel on them. Scott communicates with the athlete, discussing not only what he is doing but why he is doing it to ensure the athlete understands the reason for the changes. This allows the athlete to better understand their own body morphology and how it translates to their position on the bike.
In this way the athlete can provide more constructive feedback as they get stronger.
PERSONAL SKILLS:
Some bike fit experiences end up feeling like a sales pitch...either for a number of new parts/accessories for one's bike, or for a new bike altogether. Scott at FITT 1ST is not like that. There are times when a part or two needs replacing on an athlete's bike. Rather than force sales on the athlete, Scott simply presents the facts, explains what a new part would do for the athlete's fit, and ultimately lets the athlete make their own decision.
ATHLETE INPUT:
While Scott follows tried and true fit rules, he takes into account how the athlete is feeling during the fit process. The athlete's comfort on the bike is paramount. Scott will not force an athlete into an uncomfortable position. He works together with the athlete to determine the best overall position for them, with their specific disciplines and overall goals in mind.
We are certain that Scott and FITT 1ST will help improve our riders' overall comfort, power, aerodynamics and safety.
Welcome to WattsUp Cycling, Scott!

Here's what Sandro Scarsellone Owner of Spinkicks had to say about his fit at FITT 1ST
Give Scott a call. He is mobile & can visit you! He is very good! Check out his website at http://fitt1stbikefit.blogspot.com/
After Scott re fit me on my road bike, it was like night & day. What a difference. He spent almost 3-4 hrs measuring everything on me & the bike!
I was thinking to myself this was a waste of money at the time.
In the end it was the best decision I have ever made.
Sometimes its not the bike but how you are setup on the bike!
I totally recommend him for anyone addicted to cycling!

VELOREVIEWS REVIEWS FITT 1ST FITTING EXPERIENCE OF NEW VITESS OWNER
http://www.veloreviews.com/profiles/blogs/review-my-vitess-bicycle
A few weeks later my bike arrived and we scheduled my fitting session – a three-hour intensive session conducted by Fitt 1st at the Vitess showroom – where every part of the bike is adjusted and tweaked to ensure the perfect fit. During my session it was discovered that I need a narrower handlebar than originally thought, and than what I ordered. Not a problem! Julien swapped out the ordered bar with a bar of the correct width and ordered in the carbon bar I originally ordered at the correct size. The next week I returned and we made the swap again – adjusting the fit perfectly before sending me on my way.
The fit is perfect. I’ve had my previous bikes fit to me but not like this. My comfort level is much higher than I thought possible on a high performance bike – and my endurance is better as my body doesn’t fatigue from holding a position.

MORE ENERGIZED FITT 1ST CLIENTS
Oh man I owe you a big long email!
First off...the bike has been great and I have never felt more comfortable and confident on my bike than the way I do this year...thank you!
I've been riding outside ever since the end of March and I've been loving it. We went away to Arizona with Mark, Judy , Joyce and Christina and it was incredible riding. We did some crazy hill climbs through Mt Lemmon, Kitt's Peak, Gate's pass and some great long desert stretches. All the riding in the garage really prepared me for riding outdoors this year. The Ironman training is going really well and I'm feeling very strong. I'm really looking forward to the race.
The esoles have been a huge help as well..I haven't had anymore numbness in my feet since I started using them. I'm not using the metatarsal supports, only the arch supports but that seems to be all I really need.
I have heard nothing but raving reviews from my friend Chris who went for a fit with you. Thanks for helping him out so much. Not sure if he told you his whole story but he has transformed himself into a great athlete this year!
Thanks Again
Annette
Hi Scott
So, I did my first 'official' training ride yesterday. 65k in the
wind, cold and even a bit of snow. It felt amazing. I feel really
natural and connected on the bike, and my legs are enjoying the
outcome of having pedal spacers. The arch supports have also helped
a lot. I felt like I had a very powerful ride.... 65k in just about
2:20. Not bad for a guy who used to weigh over 400 pounds 2 years ago!
The fit has made a tremendous difference, and I feel very confident
on the bike.
All is good.
Thanks for your help!
Chris

FIRST FITT'S COMPLETED FOR VITESS BICYCLES
Here's what he had to say
Hello Scott,
The fit is great. I especially appreciate the narrower handlebars - it really felt good, and I felt strong and fast.
When the fitting session started with an interview I knew that this was something different. Something much more involved and in-depth than what I'd experienced at the local bike shop with the purchase of my previous road bike. I could almost see Scott forming a picture of how I ride, and what I need to make me faster and my bicycle more comfortable. Once I got on the bike he made a series of adjustments that seemed minor to me, but resulted in major changes in how the bike felt under me. This translated into more power, more energy and more comfort on the road.
Thanks Scott!
Regards,
Chris Kirkpatrick
