The new SQ-Pad 12, has a maximum thickness of 4 mm and initially feels both exceptionally firm and of high quality. Everyone that rides regularly knows that for rides of over 30 min duration, a saddle with thin firm padding is considerably more comfortable than a saddle with thick soft padding. The same is true for a chamois. Most chamois are about 12 mm thick and soft – until now. The initial impression of the SQ-Pad 12 is very similar to that of a SQ Lab saddle, initially somewhat unfamiliar, but the more you ride the more comfortable it becomes, and adapts to the body perfectly without slipping.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif" style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-size: 13px;"><br /></span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><h4 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #063757; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.1em; line-height: 1.3; margin-bottom: 7.5px; margin-top: 7.5px;">Breathable comfort foam</h4><p style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.3em; margin: 0px 0px 8px;">A patented manufacturing technique achieves high breathability and excellent damping properties despite the foam being high density. In the process, 98% of the foam’s surface cells are broken up so that only the connection between the foam cells remains and make up the framework of the foam. This allows uncomfortable sweat around the perineum area which often leads to chafing to penetrate to the outside away from the body.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><h4 style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #063757; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.1em; line-height: 1.3; margin-bottom: 7.5px; margin-top: 7.5px;">More advantages of the SQ-Pad 12:</h4><ul style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.3em; list-style-type: square; margin: 0px 0px 8px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 20px;"><li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">No pressure zones:</span> Compared to many other softer chamois on the market, the firm construction and low profile SQ-Pad holds its shape extremely well and is not pushed inwards by pedaling.</li><li style="box-sizing: border-box;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Optimal adaption:</span> Over time the chamois will become more elastic and will perfectly adapt to the individual body shape without slipping.</li></ul><div><span face="Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif" style="color: #333333;"><span style="font-size: 13px;"><br /></span></span></div><div><br /></div>

<br />
When I was 14, I had already been working for 2 years and saving my pennies.<br />
<br />
One day I walked in to a bike shop in my neighborhood and my eyes fell on a brand new French racing bike. Nothing like anything I had ever seen before. In my mind this was my " Red Rider BB gun " and I had to have it.<br />
<br />
It took all the money I had plus a small $$ contribution from my father and it was mine. <br />
<br />
I rode it tirelessly for the next 4 years until my 2nd year in University when it was taken from me.<br />
<br />
I never forgot this bike and I have been looking for another one for the last 35 years and was never able to find one until 2 weeks ago. .<br />
<br />
I bought it from a fellow in San Antonio Texas and it is exactly the same year and colour as mine was, with all the same components. What are the chances of that, and it is in really good condition to boot.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately he would not ship it to Canada, so I had it shipped to a UPS store in Lewiston NY and I went and picked it up 2 days ago<br />
<br />
Just shows you that never giving up pays off. I had to pay 3X what I originally paid for the bike in 1969, but it is well worth it. To be honest with you, it's priceless to me<br />
<br />
Here is a picture<br />

What should you do??Outdoor riding season was cut a little short this year in our neck of the woods this year. Already over 25 cm's of snow has fallen and its only the first week in December.<br />
<br />
Fear not some excellent indoor training can set you up well for next season's goals and <b>now</b> is the <b>BEST TIME</b> of the year to have a <b>bike fit done.</b><br />
<br />
Why you ask?<br />
<br />
You are about to put 4 - 5 good month's of indoor training in. Don't you want to make sure that all the muscle memory you are going to build is in the best position possible?<br />
<br />
A lot of people ask me why riding indoors seems to be a lot more uncomfortable than riding on the road.<br />
<br />
Here's why...<br />
<br />
Riding outside is a much more <b>DYNAMIC</b> experience, your body is constantly moving around adjusting to the wind, the other riders around you and the conditions of the weather road itself.<br />
<br />
Riding indoors is a much more <b>STATIC</b> experience, mostly staying seated all the time, never getting to coast, no recovery downhill sections etc. As a result your body doesn't experience as much variation in its position so your muscles get fatigued more quickly and you may get some aches and pains that do not happen out on the road<br />
<br />
Being in a static position periods of time will bring out all the flaws in your pedal stroke that you not feel outdoors and riding on a constant flat for long periods on time doesn't help the nether regions either<br />
<br />
Here's a <b>HINT</b><br />
<br />
Most of us train with our bike in a position which mimics a flat road, which means that the distance from the ground up to your rear skewer centre is the same as the distance from the ground up to your front skewer.<br />
<br />
Try lifting up the front wheel so that it is about an inch higher than the back wheel. This will mimic riding on a 2 percent grade.<br />
<br />
What this will do for you is shift your weight back a bit and give you what we like to call in the industry " a better seat ". That will take a little pressure off the crotch and allow you to train longer and harder with more comfort.<br />
<br />
If you get bored, try riding outside in the winter on a warmer dry day.<br />
<br />
<b>Although you can build muscles indoors, you build character outdoors</b><br />

That's the Pessimist's way of looking at things. <br />
<br />
Now the Optimist's way of looking at things... I still have eight weeks left of good indoor or outdoor (character building) training left before my first outdoor ride of the Spring season.<br />
<br />
These next eight weeks are very important in other ways as well, especially if you are looking to buy a new bike this Spring.<br />
<br />
The Toronto Bike Show is just over a month away running from Mar 3 - 5th 2017 at the Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto and can be a great place to buy a bike, with dozens of retailer's competing for your business.<br />
<br />
Shopping at the Bike show for a new bike can be either an exhaustive, stressful experience or a relaxing, pleasurable one.<br />
<br />
How do we ensure the latter rather than the former<br />
<br />
It all starts with knowing exactly what bike manufacturer, model, size, geometry and components are best for your type of riding, current physical condition and body morphology,<br />
<br />
If you know this ahead of time then shopping for a new bike becomes FUN!! <br />
<br />
Well, if you want to have fun buying a bike this Spring it all starts with a bike fit<br />
<br />
<div>
By getting a sizing cycle fit done prior to your purchase you will know exactly what you need to know to purchase your bike with confidence and not have to change or upgrade any parts afterwards at big costs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What is the best size and geometry for your specific build and riding style</div>
<div>
Which makes of bikes best suit me</div>
<div>
What is the best size and shape of saddle for you</div>
<div>
What handlebar size and shape is best for you</div>
<div>
What crank length is best</div>
<div>
What stem length is ideal</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Your negotiating power goes up because you will know exactly what you need and if the bike doesn't come with the size parts you need you may be able to get them exchanged as part of the deal and not have to pay extra to have them changed after the purchase. Bike shops may bend a little more and exchange parts for free in order to get the sale </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You will also learn how to read bicycle geometry charts, so that you can be better informed on how to compare different Manufacturers bikes. You can take your time to research different bikes over the next month. the process takes about 1.5 hrs and the cost is $139.00. A cost you will more than recover with the money you will save from your enhanced negotiating position and most importantly not end up with a bike that doesn't fit you properly and ultimately have to replace it at considerable expense.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One brands size 54 is not necessarily the same as another brands size 54 and how does a size XXS or XL fit in the overall picture.<br />
<br />
<div style="font-family: 'times new roman'; margin: 0px;">
So if a new bike is in the cards for you this Spring year or you are thinking of buying one for a significant other, Have a sizing cycle fit done and spend your hard earned $$ wisely.<br />
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
</div>
After you have bought your new bike, you should consider having a full bike fit done as well. That's where all the real benefits are realized. </div>
<div style="font-family: 'times new roman'; margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="font-family: 'times new roman'; margin: 0px;">

BETTER LIVING CENTRE EXHIBITION PLACEThe Toronto International Bike show is just a little over a month away and I think I've only shoveled snow once so far. My bike has barely gotten dirty on my commutes to and from the studio and I still have my regular tires on. Not like last year where I was cleaning the bike every day and using studded tires for most of Jan, Feb and Mar.<br />
<br />
If you are planning to buy a new bike this Spring and you are thinking of possibly picking one up at the bike show, then Now is the time that you should be thinking of having a Sizing Cycle fit done. That way you can go to the Show knowing exactly which size and geometry bike best matches your cycling needs and body type. You will also find out what size handlebars and stem length are best as well as the best saddle. That way you can negotiate to have the parts exchanged if necessary prior to sealing the deal<br />
<br />
No more guessing whether the bike is right for you when the retailer is putting pressure on you to buy that great deal.<br />
<br />
Sizing fits take approx. 1.5 hrs and cost $139.00. Great value for peace of mind<br />

<br />
There are 11,483 Canadian flags on the front lawn of this building and were planted as a gesture of thanks and remembrance for all of Canada's fallen soldiers since the days of the Boar war up until the present. <span style="font-size: 12.8px;">Hi Scott.</span>
<br />
<span style="font-size: 12.8px;"><br /></span>
It's been a while since you helped me with my track bike set up. But since you got me set up in a much more comfortable and aggressive set up, things feel much better. So much so that last weekend I managed 2 silver medals at the National championships in Masters A. Looking back on my racing this year over last, I realize just how much I was cutting off my diaphragm and limiting my breathing in my old set up. With your help and sponsorship to the team this year I was able to reach my potential, so thank you for that.<br />
<br />
I have been telling a few riders at the track about the work you did with my set up and I couldn't be happier with it. Hopefully you get a few new track bike setups as a result.<br />
<br />
Any ways thank you again for your help and let me know if you want any testimonial or content for your website. I'd be happy to help since you have helped me so much.<br />

Hi Scott
<br />
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Paolo here.</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Took the bike out a couple of times now. Wow what a difference.</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Bye bye neck strain (for the most part), and the lower back issue I was having is gone. I used to get off the bike after 40k and be bent over, because it was too painful to straighten my back at first. Now I simply get off the bike, and my back does not feel tight. </div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Definitely a big improvement in general. </div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
I am looking forward to getting those before and after adjustment sheets you mentioned, as I now am hooked on to the power of proper fitting.</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Thanks so much Scott,</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Paolo</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Hey Scott,</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
I went on a 1.5h loop up Royal York that I like to do in the mornings. It was magical! Not even a trace of pain in my knee or anywhere else for that matter. I feel very connected to the bike and all that stuff people always say, but what I couldn’t really tell during our session was how much better my spin is.</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
As you know, I ride fixed gear, descending is so fluid now. I always used to feel like I was fighting the bike trying not to bounce during fast spins, now it feels like the air is all that’s holding me back. Spinning is the best part of riding fixed gear on the road and now thanks to you my spin has gotten 10 times better!</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Finally, another aspect that wasn’t so clear during the session is how much better being out of the saddle feels now. I guess with the longer stem and improvements you did with my feet, whatever the case, it feels very natural to be out of the saddle now, I’m not fighting the bike all the time and straining to move my feet into the right position.</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
I’m looking forward to finally be able to get into the season and start bringing on the hours again!</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">
Thanks and take care,</div>
<div style="font-size: 12.8px;">

<br /></div>
<div>
How is that possible you say...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As a professional bike fitter, I see a lot of cyclists of all levels of ability and discipline and one comment comes up more often than any other.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>"I wish I had come to see you before I bought my bike, It would have saved me a lot of hassle and money"</b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
Some were riding bikes that were not even close to the right size for them and had to purchase a new bike before I could fit them properly. If they had come to have a sizing cycle fitt done beforehand, they would have saved themselves the entire cost of the new bike.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Some clients have bikes that are the wrong geometry or size for their morphology or flexibility and strength and although I can usually get the bike to fit them, the handling is substantially negatively impacted and the visual appearance of the bike is not pleasing. We have a name in the Industry for these type of bikes " Frankenstein Bikes". You've all seen them, Weird high angled , short or long stems with lots of spacers underneath to compensate for a bike that had too low a head tube for the rider, </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Having to put on reverse angled seat posts and slide the saddle all the way forward in order to get the riders knees in the correct position because the bike they were sold had either too long a top tube or too layed back a seat tube angle for them</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Saddles that feel like you are sitting on a bed of nails, handlebars that are way too wide causing all sorts of comfort issues in the upper body.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All these issues cost hundreds of $$ to remedy, and you end up with a bike that handles badly and looks like H---.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Not a pleasant experience when bikes routinely run in the $3000.00 - $10,000 price range now</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
By getting a sizing cycle fitt done prior to your purchase you will know exactly what you need to know to purchase your bike with confidence and not have to change or upgrade any parts afterwards at big costs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What is the best size and geometry for your specific build and riding style</div>
<div>
Which makes of bikes best suit me</div>
<div>
What is the best size and shape of saddle for you</div>
<div>
What handlebar size and shape is best for you</div>
<div>
What crank length is best</div>
<div>
What stem length is ideal</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Your negotiating power goes up because you will know exactly what you need and if the bike doesn't come with the size parts you need you may be able to get them exchanged as part of the deal and not have to pay extra to have them changed after the purchase. Bike shops will bend a little more and exchange parts for free in order to get the sale </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You will also learn how to read bicycle geometry charts, so that you can be better informed on how to compare different Manufacturers bikes</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One brands size 54 is not necessarily the same as another brands size 54 and how does a size XXS or XL fit in the overall picture.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So if a new bike is in the cards for you this coming year or you are thinking of buying one for a significant other, Have a sizing cycle fit done and spend your hard earned $$ wisely.. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

<div style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 18px;">
Todd contacted me in January of 2014 because he was having some knee problems that were preventing him from training. I ended up doing a complete refit on his training bike which included a lot of changes to his shoes and feet (see previous posts of Todd's knee tracking before and after his fit.) I also consulted on the design and fitting of the ETA record breaking bike.</div>

<br />
Welcome back to Miranda Tomenson, who returned to racing after a year off due to a knee injury from jamming her knee while running during a half Ironman last Fall.<br />
<br />
Miranda competed in her last race of the season on Sunday at the Lakeside Triathlon in Lakeside On., part of the Multisport Canada Series. Miranda had completed 4 Sprint triathlons earlier this year winning all 4 but wanted to finish off the season with a longer Olympic distance race to see if her knee would hold up with no pain for a 10 km run. Congrats Miranda, it appears you are well on your way back and good luck in the 2016 Pro season<br />

The client is 6' 6" tall with a 97 cm inseam, he has relatively long legs for his height , with a shorter femur length than average. He also has longer arms than average.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately there are no bikes currently available on the market that would fit him so he needed to go Custom.<br />
<br />
Here are the details of his new frame based on the results of the sizing cycle fit.<br />
<br />
As you can see, he looks quite comfortable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/m5wMfPBDnbM?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
This procedure takes about 1.5 hrs to complete.<br />
<br />
Effective Top Tube Length : 66 cm<br />
Head Tube length : 28cm<br />
Seat Tube Angle : 74 Degs, This is steeper than normal to accommodate shorter femur length<br />
Head Tube Angle : 75 Degs Also steeper than normal to prevent bike from having too long a wheelbase <br />
Seat post setback : 26 mm for better comfort and compliance<br />
Stem Length : 130 mm +/- 6 Deg for proper handling<br />
Stack Height : 1.5 cm spacers<br />
<br />
If you are looking for a new bike this Spring, whether it be custom or not, We can guarantee the perfect fit before you go out and spend your hard earned dollars<br />

<br />
Todd had high arches that were not being supported correctly in his cycling shoes. As a result when he pushed down on the pedals he was pronating quite dramatically resulting in a lot of inward (medial) knee movement on his left leg. This was causing considerable power loss to the pedal.<br />
<br />
On top of this Todd's feet had a tendency to spread under load taking his foot further out of the desired neutral position. Todd's foot analysis also revealed that he had varused forefeet.<br />
<br />
The decision was made that Todd could get much better power transfer, with a lot more comfort and stability by having some custom insoles made for his shoes.<br />
<br />
I took all the neccessary measurements and sent them off to eSoles to have a pair of Power beds custom made for Todd.<br />
<br />
Two weeks later they were in my hands and I brought him back in to be fitted.<br />
<br />
Here are the before and after videos of Todd's knee tracking, In the before videos, Todd's feet are unsupported. In the final videos, Todd has eSole Power beds in his shoes as well as In The Shoe (ITS) varus wedges.<br />
<br />
These changes will go a long way in helping Todd put maximum power to the pedals in his World Record bid.<br />

That's him piloting the helicopter in the video.<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/syJq10EQkog?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This past summer they succeeded in building and flying a human powered helicopter to capture the 33 year old outstanding Sikorsky prize. You may have read about them or seen them in the news. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This coming year their target is to break the current human powered land speed record of 133.8 km/hr on a level road in a streamlined recumbent bicycle and they have asked me to help them accomplish that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first step was to get Todd in to the studio and get him properly fitted on his road bike which he uses for about 50% of his training. This was completed on Nov 12, 2013</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next we met at AeroVelo's Design Lab on Nov 21 to talk about the building of the recumbent test rig that they will use for building the prototype of the actual recumbent bike that will be used for the record challenge. Topics discussed included back position, BB height, Q Factor ( pedal stance width ) and crank length, just to mention a few. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The challenge is coming up with the right combination to fit the body in to the smallest aerodynamic shell possible while generating the largest power possible. This test rig is now in the process of being built</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stay tuned for ongoing updates, however in the meantime take a look at AeroVelo's record challenge in 2011</div>
